New Month, New Things!

New Month, New Things!

Hello friends! Can you believe fall is almost here? The weather is feeling crisp, and football is around the corner! For the next several weeks we are going to be chatting about all the things wedding vendors! A great wedding vendor team is a core piece of the puzzle we help clients secure and we want to share some of our wisdom with you!

Today, I want to share with you some things to look for in your future caterer. Great food and drinks are the center of a great reception so we want to be sure you are armed with the right things to ask. You want to be sure your caterer has a business license, liquor and liability insurance. Having these key documents will be critical in securing your caterer as some venues will require them but also for liability purposes for you. In your initial meeting, you will want to discuss menu options and ideas, serveware options, & staffing & set up/rental needs. It is also important to ask if there are any restrictions on how long food can be on a buffet for, do they have bartenders they can provide and can you bring your own alcohol or does the caterer have to provide?

Another point we want to be sure you are aware of is that some things are not typically automatically included in catering proposals that you may want. A cake cutting fee is typically additional for the caterer to cut and serve your wedding cake, coffee service for guests is typically an add on service as well as pouring for a passed champagne toast. Be sure you ask your caterer about these services if you are interested.

Asking these questions will allow you to have clear expectations of what your caterer will and will not do–there is a difference between a pick up/drop off caterer who provides no service staff, a traditional caterer who mostly prepares off site and then brings everything to the event to finish and serve, a chef/culinary focused experience where the food experience is very important to less traditional ideas like food trucks. Whatever you choose will be the right fit for your event just be sure you are armed with the right information to be able to compare proposals accurately and make the most educated decisions!

Grab your catering questions checklist to use for your wedding planning here! Remember you don’t have to play 20 (or 50) questions when you meet with your caterer but be sure these questions are either covered in your meeting, proposal and/or contract to ensure the level of service and style you are looking for!

Warm Rustic Chic Winter Wedding: Emily + Nick

Warm Rustic Chic Winter Wedding: Emily + Nick

Warm, rustic chic, winter wedding

Emily & Nick were the most laid back, chill couple I ever met. They literally just wanted to get married and all the other stuff was the cherry on top. They wanted to be sure their friends and family were well taken care of and had a great time. Emily & I were introduced by my sorority little sister so we automatically hit off the bat having a friend in common. We planned Emily & Nick’s wedding pretty quickly which is actually my favorite–there is no lag time, there is no down planning time, we just knock it all out! I adored Emily’s dress and the light airy look of it. You know it is a rockin’ party when the bride gets on the mic and kills some Adele. It may have been a winter wedding but we were lucky to get the most beautiful, sun-shiny day. One of my favorite parts of the wedding was the wedding favor. Nick is a dentist with a new practice & so all of the guests were given Dr. Nick Brown toothbrushes! Emily & Nick, it was a pleasure to work with you & your families to plan your special day. We wish you nothing but happiness in the years to come!

Top 5 things to do once you are engaged

Top 5 things to do once you are engaged

It is engagement season! We are so excited for new brides to be starting that engagement journey but my bet is that you feel overwhelmed and aren’t sure where to start. Hence the title of today’s video! So here we go top 5 things to do once you are engaged–

  1. Enjoy a couple weeks of just being engaged! It is a special time and one that is precious so just enjoy a few weeks of this new part of your relationship.
  2. First things first, is discuss budget and guest list. These are the two hardest topics but budget will determine the number of guests you can invite. Have these conversations with each other and parents to ultimately decide on some numbers.
  3. Get your venue booked! Decide what is most important to you in a venue: can you bring your own alcohol, how many rental items are included like tables and chairs, can you do ceremony & reception at the same property, what catering company do you have to use there? Lock in a location and a date first.
  4. Book your wedding planner. Book your planner after you have booked your venue. Having a venue helps us have a vision of what you are looking for and the parameters we can create in. Booking your wedding planner now will allow you to get vendor referrals and recommendations so you are building a great vendor team.
  5. Dress time! Start shopping for THE dress. Remember it can take 6-8 months for your dress to even come in so get shopping once you have a venue because that will help with what style you should go with.

Hopefully these couple tips will help you get started in the right direction!
