Top 5 things to do once you are engaged

Top 5 things to do once you are engaged

It is engagement season! We are so excited for new brides to be starting that engagement journey but my bet is that you feel overwhelmed and aren’t sure where to start. Hence the title of today’s video! So here we go top 5 things to do once you are engaged–

  1. Enjoy a couple weeks of just being engaged! It is a special time and one that is precious so just enjoy a few weeks of this new part of your relationship.
  2. First things first, is discuss budget and guest list. These are the two hardest topics but budget will determine the number of guests you can invite. Have these conversations with each other and parents to ultimately decide on some numbers.
  3. Get your venue booked! Decide what is most important to you in a venue: can you bring your own alcohol, how many rental items are included like tables and chairs, can you do ceremony & reception at the same property, what catering company do you have to use there? Lock in a location and a date first.
  4. Book your wedding planner. Book your planner after you have booked your venue. Having a venue helps us have a vision of what you are looking for and the parameters we can create in. Booking your wedding planner now will allow you to get vendor referrals and recommendations so you are building a great vendor team.
  5. Dress time! Start shopping for THE dress. Remember it can take 6-8 months for your dress to even come in so get shopping once you have a venue because that will help with what style you should go with.

Hopefully these couple tips will help you get started in the right direction!

Romantic Birmingham Wedding – Jennifer & Patrick

Romantic Birmingham Wedding – Jennifer & Patrick

Jennifer & Patrick

Jen & Pat were one of my favorite couples of 2016. Jen was living in Michigan, Patrick was working overseas for most of their engagement and they were planning to marry in Birmingham, Alabama where Jennifer is from and is a big Bama fan–Patrick is an Ohio State fan so Jen & I had a lot of fun teasing him about that 😉 Jen & Pat met through their work and through that work they traveled extensively. This became our theme for the wedding as this is at the heart of who they are and what they love. With our couple living out of state, full planning was the service for them as they needed boots on the ground and us to keep all their to dos in line. Most of Jennifer & Patrick’s friends and family were traveling for the wedding so welcoming them well to Birmingham and making sure things were easily accessible for the guests to do was very important. As always, our bride & groom & their guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and had a lot of fun. We hope you enjoy browsing their photos and sharing in the joy of their special day.

3 things to make a memorable guest experience

3 things to make a memorable guest experience

Guest experience is one of my most important values when it comes to wedding planning. We want guests who are happy, full, enjoying libations, and having a great time. Today’s video is all about 3 things to consider so you have a memorable guest experience!

Creating a great guest experience is typically of top priority to our brides. These are some things to consider when you are planning your big day to make sure you have a memorable guest experience:

  1. Time of day–are you hosting an August outdoor wedding at 3pm? It will probably be hot so can you have fans or bottled water for your guests?
  2. Timing of food–there are two things that are important to people at weddings: booze and food. Let’s be real. Great food and a great bar are going to help drive your guest experience. Consider the timing of your ceremony and when food will be served. If you are hosting a cocktail hour be sure to have small appetizers and non alcoholic drinks available as well.
  3. Memorable details–some fun things to incorporate might be some soft seating to provide a lounge for guests, maybe it’s a late night pass of one of your favorite foods after everyone has worked up an appetite from dancing all night, could be little to go boxes so they can enjoy that midnight snack or second piece of cake in their room, comfortable chairs for dinner and ceremony–all of these things make an impact. As your wedding planner, it is our job to walk you through all these little details. We want you to be the talk of your friends for the right reasons about your wedding, not because the only thing they could focus on was the uncomfortable chair they had to sit in for an hour during dinner.

Kristen & Ryan

Kristen & Ryan

I am so excited to share this lovely couple’s beautiful day with you. Kristen & Ryan liv in Tennessee but have a love for Alabama & Alabama football (see we were meant to be;). When they come to town to see the Tide roll they always stay at Ross Bridge so that naturally was the perfect location for their big day. As their wedding planner, it was important to them we were their boots on the ground since they were not always here. Working with clients who aren’t in Birmingham but are marrying here has sorta become our thing! Kristen wanted to bring the outdoors in which we were able to do thanks to the design work of CeCe Designs. Most importantly, Kristen & Ryan’s friends and families were all traveling so they wanted to be sure they had a great time, were comfortable and felt welcomed & loved. Keeping this at the center of our planning really helped us create a fantastic guest experience. Guests danced all night long, and we sent our bride and groom off with a rose petal toss at the end of the night. It was a true joy to work with Kristen & Ryan. I hope you enjoy all their beautiful images!

Tips for selecting your wedding venue

Tips for selecting your wedding venue

Hey friends! Today’s wedding planning tip video is all about selecting your wedding venue. Typically, brides will have their venue booked before they come to us which is just fine but to help you avoid some pitfalls in venue selection I wanted to be sure to share these tips with you!

We are lucky here in Birmingham, Alabama there are many wedding venues to pick from. Sometimes that can be overwhelming to brides especially if they don’t know what they really want & can make wedding planning feel hard to even get started. Remember, your venue location is going to set the tone, mood and feel for you entire event.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Would you like a more formal wedding or casual wedding? What type of vibe does the venue you are looking at give off? Will that be easy to communicate in your invitation and other decor ideas?
  2. What time of day will your wedding be and is there any natural light in the building? If you have your heart set on sunset ceremony time but you are in a hotel ballroom–well guess what you can’t see the sunset more than likely.
  3. How many rental items are included with your venue like tables and chairs? Will this be enough to accommodate your guests or will you need to rent more?
  4. How many people can the space hold? Is that realistic in relation to your guest list? I have had so many clients book a venue, then over invite and then guests are crammed into a space that is too small and they are uncomfortable. Don’t make this mistake!
  5. What vendors do you have to use at that venue? Be wary of “all inclusive” properties. I believe that we should do one thing and do one thing well.
